06.28.08We're heading to Europe tomorrow for a brief, summer tour! For the trip we've got a new 7" out on German label Altin Village. It features guest vocals in German from our buddy Kurt Beals (Pterodactyl)! Limited pressing of 500, so order from Altin Village or hit us up at the shows. This will be the first trip overseas with the new lineup, and we're stoked. Upon returning to the States we're super excited to be playing two amazing festivals back to back: the Siren Festival at Coney Island, NY, and Whartscape in Baltimore, MD!
05.07.08We're crazy excited to announce we'll be playing this summer's Siren Festival at Coney Island on Saturday, July 19th! We'll be playing with Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Broken Social Scene, The Helio Sequence, Beach House, Times New Viking, Jaguar Love, The Dodos, Annuals, Film School, Dragons Of Zynth, These Are Powers and more to be announced.
We'll also be playing the Quart Festival in Norway and the Supersonic Festival in Birmingham, UK. Fun times!

We regretfully announce that our show this weekend at Bennington College has been cancelled. The school was demanding in our contract that we have a one million dollar insurance policy on hand to cover the attendees, a requirement we were not prepared to meet. Our apologies to the folks who tried really hard to make the show happen, and to folks in VT who were planning on coming to see us. Hopefully we'll make it up to y'all soon.
In sunnier news, we're touring Europe this July. And we're still accepting audio submissions/samples for inclusion on our new record, read more on our MySpace blog.

04.09.08At long last you can order our latest EP, Escapers Two. The second installment in our series of musical experiments, Two features 51 songs written and recorded in just two days over Memorial Day Weekend 2007. It's just shy of 30 minutes, and only a handful of the songs break the one minute mark. This is our tribute to our favorite loud and fast bands, a cram session of ideas snatched from the Melvins, Man is the Bastard, Melt Banana, and Napalm Death, as well as 80s indie/punk songsmiths like Mission of Burma, Husker Du, Minutemen and The Wipers. Check it out on our merch page.
03.03.08Today's the first day of our tour to SXSW and back again. Joining us on this trip is our new guitarist, Sarah Lipstate! We're now a four piece band trying to sound like a six piece instead of three piece band trying to sound like a five piece. Know what I mean?
You should check out Sarah's rad solo noise/guitar project Noveller.
On the way down to SXSW we're joined by Ecstatic Sunshine, celebrating their forthcoming full length WAY coming out on our label Cardboard Records in April. At SXSW we're hosting a Cardboard Records showcase featuring Parts & Labor, Gowns, Ecstatic Sunshine, Pterodactyl, Shooting Spires, These Are Powers and Best Fwends. And then we'll be driving home with our buddies Pterodactyl, fully bookending the journey with Cardboardy friendship. More info on the shows page!
02.10.08Wow, has it really been five months since I've updated this page? We've been taking it slow since touring a whole lot in 2007. But we're going to be back on the road in March, touring down to SXSW with recent Cardboard Records signees Ecstatic Sunshine and back to Brooklyn with slightly less recent signees Pterodactyl. Plus, we're hosting the first ever Cardboard Records SXSW showcase on March 12th at Habana Calle 6!
We've also got a new CD EP coming out very soon on Ace Fu Records, the second installment in our Escapers series. It's called Escapers Two; 51 super fast pop songs, the music all written and recorded in just one weekend last Memorial Day Weekend. We'll have some new t-shirt designs up soon, too. Promise.
In the meantime, check out a few YouTube videos I finally got around to uploading.
09.13.07We have found our new drummer! His name is Joe Wong, and we're very excited to have him in the band.
Joe will be making his debut appearance with us this weekend in Boston and at Bard College. First NYC show with him will be in just over a week at Les Savy Fav's record release party at the Bowery Ballroom.
08.21.07Check out our video for "The Gold We're Digging", directed by Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor! A lot of sweat went into this little film, including 34+ hours of shooting and months of editing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. See it on the YouTube.
Otherwise we've been finishing recording vocals for our next EP, Escapers Two. And we'll be announcing some fall touring in Europe and the U.S. very soon, stay tuned.
07.19.07After nearly three years of bashing, we're sad to report that our drummer, Christopher Weingarten, is leaving Parts & Labor. Chris is moving on to more rigorously pursue his work as a music editor and writer. He's the editor in chief at PaperThinWalls.com, and will soon be penning a book about Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back for the esteemed Thirty Three And A Third book series.
But so without further ado, we're searching for a new drummer. We're looking for someone who can tour a minimum of four months out of the year, starting this fall with trips in the UK/Europe as well as the U.S. They'll have some difficult shoes to fill. Tracks can be heard here and at our myspace page, and the new record is streaming at virb.com/partsandlabor. Interested parties should email us at partsandlabordrummer@gmail.com.
05.22.07Our new record, Mapmaker, is released today! Order a copy from us or Jagjaguwar Records. You can stream the entire album for free on our Virb page.
This Friday our appearance on NPR's Sound Opinions will air nationwide. Check here for stations and listen online.
Had a wonderful time on tour with ADULT., Erase Errata and Dan Deacon. We will be hitting the road again in June for a couple of weeks, peep the dates!
03.30.07Our appearance on WNYU's Make (The Product) has been archived for your listening pleasure. Click here and listen to the show from 03.28.07. Thanks to Jacqueline for having us, it was a lot of fun; we love talking about ourselves!
The debut CD from Gowns, "Red State", is out now on our label, Cardboard Records. Be sure to catch them on tour. And if you're in NYC, come out to the East Coast record release party at the Luna Lounge on Friday, April 6th. Thanks to Sto and Team Screen for the kick ass flyer.
And lastly, we're super pumped for our U.S. tour with ADULT., Erase Errata and Dan Deacon! Come see us in your town! Get off the internet!
02.16.07Our buddies at Furniture Records are releasing a colossal cassette compilation entitled Sheets Of Easter Everywhere. Over the course of a year they're issuing six tapes featuring interpretations of Oneida's infamous psyche masterpiece, "Sheets of Easter." P&L's version is available now on Volume I; learn more about it and get yourself a subscription here.
Our new album, Mapmaker, comes out May 22nd on Jagjaguwar/Brah Records. We think you're gonna like it.
Have you seen the new Cardboard Records site?
We'll be touring the US in April/May with ADULT., Erase Errata and Tussle!
12.14.06We are home and taking a needed little break. Tour was rad. Thanks to everyone who came out and to all the bands we played with and to everyone who let us stink up their apartment. Huge thanks to Jonathan for making it all happen. Also big thanks to Tod Seelie, who took photos (like the one to the left of Dan's toppled keyboard) and helped move our heavy stuff and sold our not so heavy stuff and helped drive our heavy van. Check more of his photos here.
2007 is already shaping up to be a busy year. We've got a new full length entitled Mapmaker in the works, as well as some compilation appearances, other soon-to-be-revealed recording projects, some big shows... Stay tuned, and happy holidays slash new year.
11.28.06Yeah, we know. We haven't updated our site in a while. We've been busy!
We toured Europe for the first time. We rode ferries. We ate exotic food, such as "waffles". We got lost in a medieval, mountaintop village. We made tons of new friends. We thank Steven, Gijs, Stefan, Dick, the Chosen Darkness dudes, Humpy, and Orion.
We put out a new record. It's an all instrumental 12" vinyl EP called Escapers One. You can purchase it from the rad people at Broklyn Beats or from us.
And in case you think we're slacking, we leave tomorrow for a just-shy-of-two-weeks U.S. tour. Check the shows page for the dates.
